Whit’s Story
Whit Nelson was an avid outdoor enthusiast who loved fishing, hunting, boating, and four wheeling. He had such a zest for life and so much energy and love to share. Somehow his light started to slowly flicker. No one knew his earthly flame would be extinguished by Whit on 3/31/21. He hid his pain from us all. Why? Why? Why? We all ask this question. What we want to do now is to raise awareness that mental illness is real. It is ok to talk about your feelings even if they don’t seem “normal”. Mental struggles are a sign we have feelings and emotions and that we are humans! Mental struggles are real and it is ok to admit that. It is not a sign of weakness.
We want to raise money to find answers and offer support to those struggling and those around people that struggle with depression, anxiety and other forms of mental illness.
Secondly, we would like to raise money for Project Healing Waters projecthealingwaters.org. Whit and his father’s love for fly fishing led Carter to get involved with this charity a few years back. It is a program dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. We know Whit always believed in our military and knew the joy that fly fishing can bring. We feel bringing joy to disabled veterans through the art of fly fishing is a beautiful way to honor Whit.
